We’re in the middle of the bubbly World Cocktail Week–have you been celebrating enough? If not, well, you still have time, because it runs until the 13th of May. But wait, what (you ask, when you put down your glass) actually is World Cocktail Week? Well, it was started by the wonderful folks at the Museum of the American Cocktail, and as they tell it, “World Cocktail Week, celebrated from May 6th -13th, was established to promote a better understanding, appreciation, and respect for the cocktail and its history. The date commemorates the first reference of the term “Cocktail” in the 1806 edition of “The Balance and Columbian Repository.”’ And what, besides having a host of delicious and well-made cocktails, can you do to celebrate? I suggest visiting the Museum’s World Cocktail Week page first, where you can find out what bars in your area are having events during the week, read more about the week, and even (if you work in or own a bar) become a participating bar. But once past those shaking activities, what I suggest more than anything else if you’re a cocktail lover and want to get completely in the spirit, is that you become a card-carrying member of the Museum of the American Cocktail. It’s a fantastic organization, and being a member lets you wear your cocktail enthusiasm on your sleeve without having to spill a drink. Cheers!
