Making Sure Your Baby Furniture Crib Safe!

By yanli liu

A baby furniture crib may seem like the best place for baby when it’s time for their nap or to get to sleep for the evening. However, the crib can sometimes be the most dangerous place for your child! If you take care, then your baby will be safe; skip these important precautions and you may be placing your baby in danger.

It is vital that the parents, grandparents, and babysitters all pay attention to crib safety tips in order to make sure that the life of the child is protected.

Most importantly of all, your baby should always be put down for a nap on their back. An infant can easily choke when lying on their stomach. Make sure that the sheet in the crib is the right size for the mattress. A sheet which is too large or too small can come undone and presents a risk of suffocation.

Even though your baby’s crib may seem like the best place to fill up with crib bumpers, stuffed animals, pillows and blankets, it’s best not to have these in the crib when your baby is sleeping. These can all potentially suffocate an infant. When you place your baby in the crib, take all of these items out to ensure that they will be safe.

You should check the slats on the baby furniture crib to make sure that the slats are no farther apart then 2 3/8 “so that your baby cannot get caught in between the slats. If your baby sleeps in a wooden crib, then you’ll need to make sure that there are no splinters and that the crib is well-constructed with all of its parts securely fitted together. Any paint should be lead free and in good condition with no peeling or cracking.

Decorative cutouts on the end panels inside the crib are also a potential hazard to your baby. These can fall off and be choked on by babies. The mattress also needs to be the proper size for the crib to ensure that the child will not have their arms, legs or head caught in these spaces. If your crib has a side which may be lowered, this should be locked into place every time it is put up and should be an entirely hand operated mechanism so that it can’t come undone when you’re not in the room.

So as you can see, protecting your infant when inside the baby furniture cribs is all about taking safety precautions. There is nothing wrong with being a little over the top when it comes to being proactive but to simply ignore possible dangers is simply unacceptable.

Take a few moments to inspect the crib that belongs to your baby and see if there are any improvements you could make to make it a safer place for your baby to relax. - 23546
