Truth be told I couldn't really say how Halo Wars is doing. Sure it sold over a million copies less than a month after launch. That's a big number and according to Microsoft it makes Halo Wars the most successful console-based RTS ever. I don't think anybody thought that wouldn't be the case, but about two months later and the game having fallen out of the top 10 list of games played on Xbox LIVE several weeks running, it looks like Microsoft wants to remind people that it is still there with the modes video below.
The point in bringing up the top 10 list is that we are talking the Halo franchise here, which is king on LIVE. Halo 3 and Halo 2, nearly two and five years old respectively, are and have been pretty much always tops in their LIVE categories since their releases. Then again, everybody knows that the console platform is not the best place to play RTS games. Regardless, it would seem that it could be that a lot of those million+ Halo fans who bought Halo Wars have reverted back to their FPS-centric gaming tastes. Again, that must have been predicted, just maybe not this quickly. Let's see now, when is Halo 3: ODST releasing again?
