Airheads: 3 metalheads with toy guns reluctantly take a music station prisoner, wishing to get play for their one and only demo tape. Not precisely the most difficult subject to satirize, although the script is weakanyway. A somewhat vigorous direction and compact running time help a tad. (91 minutes, 1994)

Fracture: Hopkins plays a cold, determining gentleman who shoots his spouse once he finds she’s been in bed with an L.A.P.D. lieutenant. However there is no definative proof, which makes the case a perfect one for partner D.A. Gosling, who’s just getting ready to move on to a cushy job at a high-end law firm. Cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Ryan Gosling, David Strathairn, Rosamund Pike, Billy Burke, Fiona Shaw, Bob Gunton, Embeth Davidtz, Cliff Curtis, Xander Berkeley, Josh Starnberg, and Joe Spano. Day Watch: Weak, perplexing, and endless continuation to Night Watch in which the powers of the “light” and the “dark” are at it once more. After being framed, Anton (Khabensky) tries to spare himself and his child from wicked powers in post-apocalyptic Russia. Cast includes Konstantin Khabensky, Mariya poroshina, Vladimir Menshov, Galina Tyunina, and Viktor Verzhbitsky. (132 minutes, 2006)

De-Lovely: Handsome however strange biopic of the incredible songwriter Cole Porter, whose love for his spouse didn’t preclude him from chasing homosexual affairs. Kline is much more interesting than the film as the scene in which he instructs Barrowman how to harmonize “Night and Day” shows. Cast includes Kevin Kline, Ashley Judd, Jonathan Pryce, KevIn McNally, Allan Corduner, Sandra Nelson, Keith Allen, James Wilby, John Barrowman, Kevin McKidd, Peter Polycarpou, and Richard Dillane. (125 minutes, 2004)

It’s the Rage: The lives of a group of seemingly distinct individuals are connected by personal problems which lead to resolutions with guns. This loud satire of individual and cultural brutality gets worse as it goes along, regardless of the attempts of an excellent cast. Cast includes Joan Allen, Jeff Daniels, Andre Braugher, Gary Sinise, Josh Brolin, Robert Forster, and Anna Paquin. (97 minutes, 2000)

Lust for Life: This is a bright adaptation of Irving Rock’s biography of painter Van Gogh, vividly depicting his anguished life. Cast includes Kirk Douglas, Anthony Quinn, James Donald, Pamela Brown, Everett Sloane, Niall MacGinnis, Noel Purcell, Henry Daniell, Jill Bennett, Lionel Jeffries, and Eric Pohlmann. (122 minutes, 1956)

The Egyptian: Ponderous, often accidentally ludicrous biblical times soaper with Purdom cast as the tender, truth seeking title personality, set in old Egypt. Darvi’s behavior as a femme fatale is humorously terrible. Cast includes Jean Simmons, Champ Mature, Gene Tiemey, Michael Wilding, Bella Darvi, Peter Ustinov, Edmund Purdom, Judith Evelyn, Henry Daniell, John Carradine, and Tommy Rettig. (140 minutes, 1954)

Good Sam: Virtually complete misfire, regardless of cast and director. Cooper is an incurable good guy in this inanimate comedy. Cast includes Gary Cooper, Ann Sheridan, Ray Collins, Edmund Lowe, Joan Lorring, and Ruth Roman. (113 minutes, 1948)
