Due to the big announcement of our email digest sweepstakes yesterday, What’s New got a merry bump from behind and is coming in a special Thursday flavor this week.

GamePark GP2X Wiz ($179 MSRP)–This handheld gaming console is the update of the GP2X, the legendary handheld for the geek’s geek. The Wiz runs Linux like its predecessor but improves upon the original with a 533Mhz ARM processor, a touch screen, li-ion rechargeable battery, and a gigabyte of Flash memory with SD expansion. You can only order it from Korea, but $179 is pretty reasonable for an all around gaming/multimedia device with an open development kit. An app store is opening for the Wiz soon, but in the meantime there’s always the traditional method of getting your money’s worth out of a GamePark (coughemulatorscough)…

Archos 2 Video/MP3 Player ($59 MSRP)–The only 8 GB player on the market retailing under $60, the Archos 2 plays most music formats and plays video when converted with included software. It has a 1.8″ LCD screen, an aluminum backing, and microSD expansion slot.

Sony STR Series Receivers ($149-299 MSRP)–This year’s line of Sony’s entry-level receivers bring more features to the lower price points, such as True Cinema and uncompressed audio compatibility as well as BRAVIA Sync and multiroom music capabilities (using optional S-AIR products). Now you don’t need to spend a grand on something that can play nice with your high-definition sources like PlayStation 3 or Blu-ray player.

Kindle DX ($489 MSRP)–(C’mon, how could we not mention this?) Featuring a bigger, auto-rotating screen plus more storage and native .PDF support, some people are already calling it the college textbook of the future. Or you can just read regular books on it, purchased from the 275,000-title, over-the-air catalog.
