Cell phones are one of the fastest changing areas of modern technology but this can confuse buyers who are constantly bombarded with new models and an ever increasing range of ‘must have’ functions. Below are some facts every user should know so you won’t get caught in a trap, but become educated before you make your next phone purchase.

Every user will occasionally experience the race against battery life as they try to use up every ounce of power there is before recharging. If you do not want to replace your cell phone battery early then you must not continue leaving the recharge cycle until the last minute.

There are several ways to prolong the life of your cell phone battery; Keep your back light off unless you know for sure you’ll need it and while this might be annoying at first it will save battery life. The biggest drain on the cell phone battery is when it is trying to receive a signal and a full charge can fade completely overnight even though it is not being used just because it cannot find a signal so if this is the case, turn it off. When ever you use your cell phone; talking, playing games, listening to music, taking picture with the flash or surfing the Internet, it will drain the battery faster so limit these activities otherwise you may not be able to make that urgent call you need.

While downloading new ring tones and wallpaper is a great idea, many people are given free sample but forget they will be charged for the rest that are download automatically, sometimes without their knowledge. As far as children are concerned, parents should look for a facility where they can disable this feature or ensure that only the parent can order them.

It really does depend on the type of user you are as infrequent users benefit from the ‘pay per use’ plans. Only you will know how often you make calls and how long they are on average but the pay-per use agreement is probably not going to be the most cost effective if you are someone who uses the phone a great deal. Some features like tri-band or quad-band means they can be used in Europe and Asia but these may only be available with phones that are part of a long term agreement so look out for deals that will be of benefit to you.

It is always a good idea once you are happy that your plan supplies everything you need so check the small print in case there are any further costs not immediately apparent that will be payable once you have signed on the dotted line. It is now common for people with long term contracts to have an insurance warranty included which will replace their phone if it is damaged, lost or stolen.
