Look Out, Phonies:  Is Holden Caulfield making a comeback?  Rumors are swirling around the seriousness of 60 Years Later: Coming Through the Rye, a purported sequel to J.D. Salinger’s Catcher in the RyeA Guardian interview with author John David California isn’t satirical, but most critics remain unconvinced that it’s a legit work of fiction.  As Galley Cat points out, Mr. California’s bio does contain some “fantastical elements:”

The former gravedigger and Ironman triathlete has been captivated by the story of Holden Caulfield for years. After finding a well-travelled copy of The Catcher in the Rye in an abandoned cabin in rural Cambodia, the iconic characters within saw John through the most maniacal of tropical fevers and chronic isolation.

You be the judge, but don’t go judging Holden.
